Episode 2.

Hey guys,
This is Nick for the first time. I'm currently in the middle of writing episode two which though moving steadily is being balanced with a mess of other junk I'm trying to get done. However the current plan is to be shooting this episode by the last month of the summer and putting the first two episodes online in the fall. So Ill keep you updated as I know more. Also it looks like Luke put up a contest of sorts on the facebook page so jump over there to get in on that. The facebook page is probably going to be where things of that nature are going to take place since any contest put up on this site will be put up by me and therefore probably related to sexual favors.

Test Screening A Success!

Hey Everyone,

Over the last 2 weeks Episode one has gone through 3 screenings. The first screening begins showing the first 16 minute cut to my classmates/professor as my final project for the semester. As the movie finished, the hands rose up and was followed by a wave of critique. Most of the comments stated that the episode was too long and that some scenes weren't needed as they repeated certain beats.

I took this critique to heart, cutting the movie down to ten minutes. By doing this we have made a much tighter piece that flows so much smoother. When the new cut was shown again in my end of the semester review the piece received much praise from my professors saying that it was great that I listened to the comments of my classmates, and really cut the piece up. Also saying that the new cut is 100 times better. But we still wanted my feedback from a more general audience. So it was decided to show Episode 1 at the Sophomore Film Conservatory Screening this year.

Many thanks to those who came out to see our films. An even greater thanks to those who stuck it out though the night in that unbearably hot room. The Episode was screened to roughly 100 people that evening, and was met with great reviews from fellow peer's and colleagues.

Now that we have this new cut we'll be diving into the productions of the next couple episodes. writing for episode 2 begins this weekend. Expect more updates one episode 2 coming soon!

Best,
Luke Francy

It is completely edited together and is about to have its first screen test this afternoon. The Editing has been an incredibly long, but fun process. The first cut of this episode comes in at about 16 minutes, which is a minute longer than what we wanted, however after several test screenings we shall be able to cut that down.

I would like to take this time to Thank everyone who has been a part of this project. We have really created something that has the legs to go somewhere. Also Thanks t the people who have been following this blog and the production of this web series!!!

Final Production Week!

Hey everyone,

Its a very exciting time right now. This weekend we shall be shooting the final sections of episode one. It will most likely be a very long weekend as we'll be shooting in 2 different location as well as one scene with upwards of 15 extras. It's defiantly going to be one of the hardest part of the whole series because it the very first scene. Focusing on defining the characters as well as managing the extra's will be a new experience but rewarding one.

In other news take a look at this snazzy poster for a fake student film.

Pretty awesome? The poster was designed by Allison K. Murphy. A visual art's major with a concentration in graphic design at purchase college. You can check out some more of her work here. Below are some photo's from the actual shoot the still is from.

Cinematographer Nicole Favale takes a stab at acting.

This is a joke that will keep coming back :)

Fake Student Films

Hey all,
Production is continuing to progress, however for the next two weeks we wont be shooting anything from the main script. A big part of the first episode is to have several terrible student films for a fake film festival and when i say terrible i mean god awful!

Nick and I are on a quest to create some of the worst student films we can think of. No genre is safe. Whether it be the film that is riddled with unnecessary special effects, the very pretentious art's film, the comedy that's just not that funny, or someones attempt at a french new wave style, we shall make it.

Just a small preview of what out shitty student films involve

It's a really interesting feeling to have to try and make intentionally bad films after spending so many years trying to make good films. I kinda of feel its like making a comedy. Our goal is to be so bad its funny, which still requires all the aspects that go into making a regular comedy. Good timing, original jokes (or in this case original bad idea) and characters with defined goals.

If anyone has some horrible student film they own or have made, if you want them to appear in the web series please send them to our website at slatedproductions@gmail.com.

See ya'll later
